TUC Affinity Partnership Case Study

SITUATION

  • The TUC has marketed an affinity card since 1990, generating substantial commission streams for the participating Unions within the scheme; originally in partnership with Unity Bank and then Bank of Scotland

TASK

  • As the most recent contract renewal of the Bank of Scotland deal approached in 2004, the TUC asked Affinity Solutions to review the existing partnership and support the Union in its negotiation of a new contract with the Bank

ACTION

  • Assessment of the performance of the programme, through market benchmarking and interviews with stakeholders within the Unions
  • Provision of support to the Union in agreeing the terms of a new programme with Bank of Scotland by identifying areas of the contract that needed to be developed
  • Support in negotiation of terms

RESULT

  • TUC reached the decision to renew existing contract on the basis of enhanced terms that Affinity Solutions had helped to negotiate
  • A new seven-year deal featuring substantially improved commercial terms was signed
